Do Americans eat beetroot?

Miss McGeady commented on Ben's salad lunch post and told Ben that she likes to eat beetroot in her salad. Ben replied and said "I was wondering what is a beetroot? Is is like a red beet that we have in America?"

This is the beetroot that many Australian's love to eat...

It comes in a can and is very tasty in sandwiches, salads and hamburgers.

Beetroot is a root vegetable that is low in fat and high in fibre.

You can also eat raw beetroot (which is probably better for you) however canned beetroot is most popular in Australia for it's sweet taste.

  1. Hello Collaboration Corner students,

I'm an American, and I grow beets (beetroot) in my garden. My favorite way to eat them is in a delicious soup called borscht. Borscht is a soup of Ukrainian origin. It is popular in Ukraine and other counties. The beets give the soup a deep red color.

By the way, you can also eat the beet leaves. They are very nutritious and best when they are small and tender.
